World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Brimbank joins communities and organisations around the world acknowledging that older people are essential in the fabric of our society. They are entitled to respect and support. We must work together to prevent elder abuse and safeguard the rights, dignity and independence of older people.

Elder abuse is any act that causes harm to an older person and is carried out by someone they know and trust such as a family member or friend. The abuse may be physical, social, financial, psychological or sexual and can include mistreatment and neglect.

Seniors Rights Victoria provides information, support, advice and education to help prevent elder abuse. See www.seniorsrights.org.au or contact the free, confidential Helpline: 1300 368 821.

AVA’s Volunteer Week

It’s a great honour to be acknowledged in the Australian Parliament. I’m very proud of all the Australian Vietnamese Art’s members who have dedicated their time for the good of the community, especially for the Brimbank community.

Congratulation to all.
